The Project
This project was to refurbish the interior of a patient ward at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, whilst still in full operation with minimum impact to staff, patients and day to day operations. To enable easy identification of our workers for both the hospital staff and patients, it was essential to work in company uniform.
The refurbishment was part of the Sodexo lifecycle PFI works. The works started by removing all fittings and bump rails (which were refitted post decorating) from the walls to allow us to clean and prepare the surfaces by filling and sanding. Once prepared, the walls and ceilings were painted with two coats of Dulux diamond matt emulsion, with the addition of anti-graffiti sealer to the high traffic areas to prolong the life and allow the walls to be cleaned as and when required. Areas of vinyl sheet flooring on the ward were repaired where required.
As part of the side room washrooms refurbishment, the white hygienic wall panels were replaced where needed, areas of damaged wall cladding were removed and disposed of and replaced with new cladding. The wall panels incorporated thermoformed corners to improve hygiene and welded joints to prevent maintenance issues. Integrated Plumbing System (IPS) panels that had fallen below the required standard, as well as relevant sink, toilet and shower sanitaryware, were also replaced. The project was completed successfully.
